Immune disorders

Immune disorders are characterized by either an underactive or overactive immune system and are often diagnosed and treated without considering root cause. Chronic inflammation and immune disorders can lead to a wide variety of clinical complaints such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, and attention/focus issues. Because there is overlap in symptom expression for various immune conditions, it is important to consider the source of immune dysregulation when determining individual treatment.

There is also emerging evidence that imbalances in the immune system can affect neurotransmitter levels, which may be a contributing factor to the psychological complaints.

A New Scientific Approach to Immune Disorders

Many people with immune disorders are already utilizing doctor-supervised therapies based on symptom presentation. However, assessment of both immune and nervous system markers can be helpful in selecting a medication and tracking its effects.

Several tests may be useful in determining the origin of immunological disturbances, including evaluation of neurotransmitters, cytokines, food sensitivities, and metal hypersensitivies.
